Leadership & Professional Service

Ms. Sutton has demonstrated leadership through extensive service to state and national recreational therapy organizations. She serves as Executive Director of the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure and previously served as Board Chair and board member. Her national leadership includes ATRA Quality Providers Internship Subcommittee Co-Chair, ATRA Standards of Practice Subcommittee member, and multiple conference presentations and trainings related to internships, compliance, and standards. She also maintains active involvement in NCRTA, NCRPA, NART, NCCDP, and interprofessional education initiatives at the university and statewide levels.

Professional Awards & Recognition

Ms. Sutton is recognized for her performance as an educator, mentor, and leader in recreational therapy. She was accepted as a Fellow in the National Academy of Recreational Therapists and has received multiple UNCG Outstanding Teaching Award nominations. Her recognitions also include the UNCG Faculty Excellence in Research and Creative Activity Award, Mentor/Faculty Latinx Staff Association Award, UNCG Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creativity Office Award, and the iBelong Grant Award. Her work reflects excellence in student mentorship, fieldwork supervision, curriculum development, and professional advocacy.
