Dr. Crowe's research focuses on healthy aging and the use of complementary and integrative health approaches among individuals with chronic health conditions across the lifespan for the purpose of: (a) addressing the primary symptoms and/or residual impacts of their health condition; (b) preventing the onset of secondary conditions; and (c) promoting individuals positive health and quality of life through leisure participation and community engagement. As part of her research, Dr. Crowe enjoys collaboratively working with and mentoring graduate
students as they develop their knowledge and skills as scholars and advance the field of recreational therapy through their research.

Dr. Crowe currently serves as an associate editor for the Therapeutic Recreation Journal and the ATRA Annual in Therapeutic Recreation. Dr. Crowe has served on the American Therapeutic Recreation Association’s (ATRA) Annual Conference Research Institute Committee as a co-chair for poster presentations. She has also served as an abstract reviewer for the ATRA Annual Conference Research Institute.
Professional Awards & Recognition
Dr. Crowe, in collaboration with colleagues and graduate students, has received several awards, including “Best Research Poster” at the 2022, 2019, and 2018 ATRA Annual Conferences; the Al Kaye Poster Presentation Award at the 2019 Southeast Recreational Therapy Symposium; and the Ann James Award for Outstanding Presentation at the 2015 Southeast Recreational Therapy Symposium. Dr. Crowe and her Clemson University Recreational Therapy colleagues received the Clemson University College of Behavioral Sciences Award of Excellence in Innovation during the 2018-2019 academic year, acknowledging the online graduate program
and a graduate-level recreational therapy curriculum.
