Scholarly Contributions

Dr. Silander's scholarly work focuses on fostering inclusion, well-being, and student success in educational and recreational contexts. She has examined how students (secondary & postsecondary) with and without disabilities experience a sense of belonging and identify strategies that promote inclusive environments. She has explored holistic indicators of student thriving—such as mental health, engagement, and resilience—and assesses how recreational therapy interventions support the development of social-emotional learning (SEL) and overall well-being, particularly among youth. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, her goal is to address complex challenges in student success and inclusion.
